Today I really, really wanted to cut some brand new fabric, open a new pattern and get to work. Instead I resisted the urge and decided to try to finish something I started back in June. My Lemon Twist quilt. I got all the pinwheels done and now I'm starting the appliqued lemons. The pattern says to do three yellow, wool flowers in the bottom right corner. My 5 year old is allergic to wool. He breaks out in hives so I just don't use it. I was thinking I'd do three small yo-yos but I want to be able to wash this quilt. I can't get a good picture of the pattern so you can see what I'm talking about. It's small, the pattern says 42x 56 or something. It could be a baby quilt so it really does need to be washable. Have you thought of appliqueing a few flowers, or even doing some embroidery? Let us know what you come up with.
Can you just use regular fabric?? I so simple applique on tshirts and other clothes for my kids all the time, and they wash up fine. I kind of like the raw edge and how it frays up after a while.
Embroidery is another good option.
That makes me want to cut out lemons too!
