I made some burp cloths . I love these kind made out of cloth diapers. They are so absorbent. I made some bibs at the last minute too, but for whatever reason the picture will not upload. 
The other thing I made for her was this kitten quilt. The pattern is from American Quilting in Orem. I love how it turned out. I think I need to make one for my baby girl!
Here is a close up of the cats. I embroidered the faces and then appliqued them using a running stitch and black floss.
I finally finished binding this fun nursery rhyme quilt. I've had the binding on for about two weeks, but just didn't get to actually stitching it down. I love the fun fabric!
I've actually been working on this quilt for a few weeks now. I've just done several other things in the process. This is Black Diamonds by American Jane. One of the stars is easy to see, but there are two other stars on either side of it. I'm loving the fabric as well, which is Snippets by American Jane. The black is just a random black with white dots that I can't remember what line it's from right now. These are the first four rows. There are 18. This is not quite a quarter finished. When I make quilts I like to do a block or two completely finished before I start chaining. This time I'm doing a row. Piecing blocks is my favorite part but I don't love sewing rows together. Since you can't see the patter until you sew rows together I decided to do this a row at a time. I chain a row and then sew it to the others. Hopefully that will make sewing the rows together more exciting! 
I am currently trying to finish quilts I have already started or quilts I have fabric for. My goal is to not buy more fabric until I use what I already have. Because of this I pulled out my vintage Christmas quilt that was about half way done. I finished the blocks and put them in order. I had noticed that in the pattern there were blocks that were only half blocks on the sides. I rarely read the whole pattern when I make quilts. I figure out how to do the blocks and then just do the rest on my own. Well.... maybe I should start reading the whole thing. I threw some of the scraps away. I am trying to eliminate scraps that are not really big enough to use. Oops! This time I needed them to make the half blocks on the side. I was able to rescue some (others had just left on their way to the dump). Fortunately the trash can in my sewing room is just used for dryer sheets and fabric.... nothing gross. Hopefully this will make me read the whole pattern before I start tossing things. 
You can see the half blocks on the end of the second row. What you can't see is that they are pieced with fabrics or the same color, but not exactly the same fabric. The pattern used this too. 
I used my first honey bun this last week. It's Hello Betty from Chloe's Closet. I can't say that I loved working with a honey bun. There aren't many patterns out there so I made up my own. I was thinking I'd have a good sized baby quilt. WRONG! It's a small baby/ doll quilt. I haven't put a border on it yet and I'm not sure if I will. It's so busy that I don't really want one. I may just wait and she can use it now and then use it as a doll quilt when she is bigger than a doll herself. 
I also made Olivia some more burp cloths. Really, can you ever have enough? I feel like I need at least two a day, especially if we go somewhere so that I don't have to take one that already has spit up on it. 
This one totally clashed with the others so I took a picture of it separately. I still feel like I need a few more. I made some others earlier when she was very first born, but they were in the wash and I never got around to posting pictures. These are the most absorbent burp clothes I own made from cloth diapers. 
I've been working quite a bit on my small GFG quilt. It's quite fun actually. I have a few more flowers finished, but haven't added them yet. I had a little problem last week. 
Yes, as I got up to get a drink he grabbed my scissors and hacked away. He got this hexagon and a corner off the one next to it. Sometimes I have to remember all those times when I didn't have a baby but wanted one more than anything. I try to think about this before I get mad. It helps. I know, I know.... I shouldn't have left him alone with the scissors even though I was in the same room and he was busily driving a truck when I got up. I won't be making that mistake again. 
I'm trying to decide how I feel about this border. Sorry about the ripple. Just as I was about to take the picture my husband was being "helpful" and pulled it a little. So my question is this.... is the border too distracting? I want people to notice the center of the quilt before they notice the border. What do you think?
I was really curious about grandmother's flower garden. In November I bought hexagon paper pieces and started to work on this block. I haven't been working on it very often because I've been doing the appliqued flowers, but I made this one grandmother's flower. I really like the look of it..... but would I really keep this up for a whole quilt?
I started on another one. Maybe I'll do a baby one with just one row of petals. Hopefully I can figure out a method of machine piecing that I like. One as posted on the Moda Lissa blog awhile ago.
What to work on now? I really want to start something new, but as you can see on my sidebar I should really finish something I'm working on. The lady bug quilt would be quick to finish, but it's a baby quilt and I'm a little discouraged in the baby department these days. I should finish Jake's football quilt, I have all the 4 patches done and just need to put the rows together, but it doesn't sound fun at the moment. I could start on the borders and sashing on the flowers..... I could, but I really want to start something new. I have two layer cakes and three jelly rolls that I am trying to resist. I'm in the mood to stipple 1974, but I don't have the right color of thread. I just really want to start something new. I'm going to be strong though!
This is the block for March. Many patterns call for flying geese, which is what these arrows are called, as a sub block. 
The finished quilt will look similar to this quilt. This quilt is one that my friends each did a block to give to every other person doing the quilt. Although the quilt we make will not use these exact blocks the finished quilt will be a sampler like this. There are many different ways to finish your quilt and we will talk about that as we go along. 
After cutting out slightly over a million wedges you take 6 and sew them together. I'm not sure how big I will make mine, so I don't know how many to cut. 
Here is one that's been sewn and trimmed. 
Now it's time to iron (press) them onto the white background. Quiltsmart fuses right on, not as tightly as fusible webbing, but enough for a temporary hold.
I think I'm going to go with purple. I can't decide if I should use the same purple for an outer border, or if I should use a print. 
Here is a picture of the pattern. You can see that the first one has a patterned border and a scrappy border in between the sashing and the border. If you scroll down there is a baby sized one with no scrappy border. The outer border is still patterned, but I like it better than the first. I'm wondering if I did the scrappy border and then did more purple or should I find an outer border I like better. What do you think?
I finished binding my Lemon Twist quilt last night. I don't love the quilt, but I ended up loving the binding. I didn't think I would like it very much until I was actually binding it. 
It was a good use of my 30's yellow and green scraps, but I didn't realize when I started how small it was. I'm going to have to start checking the finished size before I start. Also, the pattern had a scrappy border, but I felt like it looked too busy so I just did the green dots. Here's Jake's usual picture with the quilt.
Today I really, really wanted to cut some brand new fabric, open a new pattern and get to work. Instead I resisted the urge and decided to try to finish something I started back in June. My Lemon Twist quilt. I got all the pinwheels done and now I'm starting the appliqued lemons. The pattern says to do three yellow, wool flowers in the bottom right corner. My 5 year old is allergic to wool. He breaks out in hives so I just don't use it. I was thinking I'd do three small yo-yos but I want to be able to wash this quilt. I can't get a good picture of the pattern so you can see what I'm talking about. It's small, the pattern says 42x 56 or something. It could be a baby quilt so it really does need to be washable. What would you put there if wool was not an option?
