For my Sous-Chefs

It's been a busy week so far. The first day of second grade for my oldest, more canning, dental appointments, back to school night and FSA stuff (I'm the co-chair for our office). I did manage to get some sewing done last week though.Sorry, I can't move the pictures around and I'm too lazy to retype stuff. This is the apron I made for my oldest. My boys always want to help me cook and are quite the mess makers so they needed aprons.
I love boy fabric. It seems like it's becoming more available now too!

I decided to make one for me while I was at it. I still need to make one for my four year old, but I just couldn't resist this fabric any longer. Ignore the way it looks totally misshapen on my floor.
Remember the dilly beans I posted last time? Well.... I realized an hour ago I need to make more. They are suppose to sit for 2 weeks before you eat them. We opened some today and I was thinking my 4 year old would maybe eat 4 or 5 with lunch. Nope. Between he and my 15 month old they ate the whole jar. They are a little on the spicy side. Why knew a 15 month old would like them so much?

Gifts

I've been busy sewing gifts for family members. My husband's mom's birthday was in August. In fact, it was the day we moved. She was so sweet to come and help on her birthday. I had bought stuff to make her an apron before we moved, but didn't get to it until today. Here's a picture.

I couldn't find my pattern instructions, but I did find the pieces. Add that to the growing list of the lost. I also can't find my turners for the apron strings which is a HUGE pain to turn those narrow things without it. I cant' find at least two other patterns either. I hope they turn up soon as everything I know is missing I haven't even used yet.
My sister-in-law is having a baby girl in October. Her shower is tomorrow night and I decided to make these for her. The first is a reversable smock. The plain side is the front and the criss cross is the back. The second is matching booties for one of the sides. FrontBackFront

BackBooties. Now I am really wanting a girl!

Cherry Apron

I made another apron this weekend. I think I'm addicted. I have fabric for one more, but I don't think I can stop with just one. Maybe that's what my family, friends and the girls I visiting teach will be getting for Christmas!

Does anyone else have this problem? When I sew too late at night it's like my brain turns to mush. I'm not talking 2 or 3am, but I swear as soon as the clock turnes to 10pm all my brain cells go out the window. Last night was no exception. I wanted to try the ruffle and kept going. I should have stopped. When I looked at it this morning I saw all my mistakes, but at the time I kept thinkng I was fine and I could just keep going. Lesson learned. Stop sewing at 10pm.

Fruity Apron with a Little Less Rick Rack

Today during nap time I decided to make my first apron. I used my least favorite fabric so I could make the mistakes with it and hopefully have it perfected (haha) by the time I get to fabric I like better. I also decided to line the apron, which is not part of the instructions, since it seemed easier to do the rick rack that way. Things went well until I started on the ruffle.

I didn't have enough lining for the ruffle so I decided to try out my rolled hem foot. It took a few practices, but it's actually pretty cool. I'm excited to experiment a little more with it.

Then I started on the rick rack. I did the bottom and sides of the ruffle first. While I was pinning on the ruffle one of my children (who shall remain nameless) decided to "help." When I turned around he was cutting my rick rack into small pieces. When I gasped in horror he looked confused. He thought I needed it in little pieces. Really, how could I get mad when he was just trying to help. Needless to say, the apron does not have rick rack in all the required places. Can you tell where I left it off?

Now I need to start dinner. I feel like a new apron needs to debut with a great dinner. Too bad I haven't been to the grocery store in about two weeks. Maybe they'll be happy with peanut butter? Oh wait, we're out of bread.
